The Future Ground — Urban Planning Under Climate Uncertainty

Traditional urban planning is hamstrung by its own rigidity. This work bridges the gap between static land-use models and the volatile reality of climate disruption, moving toward adaptive, systems-based planning. A hybrid scenario-building method — tested across India and the Netherlands — embeds resilience as a context-specific reality.

Planning Support Systems for Long-Term Climate Resilience — a critical review

A text-mining analysis of 36,405 academic papers and 86 practice documents on urban planning and climate resilience. Using the DPSIR framework, the chapter maps drivers, pressures, and planning responses — and surfaces a research agenda for planning that holds across long time horizons and multiple infrastructure systems.

Flood risk and vital infrastructure — Edogawa, Tokyo

A collaborative design-engineering exercise for flood-prone Edogawa ward. Hydraulic engineering combined with spatial planning to deliver two alternatives — Edogawa Water City and Parkway Edogawa — each evaluated for urban design quality and effectiveness in reducing flood risk. The exercise shows that successful resilience requires interdisciplinary bargain between hard and soft measures.

MILLK — Play, Café, Spa

A controlled public space carved into a former mill in Lower Parel, Mumbai, holding a children's play area, a café, and an adult spa under one roof. The exterior — low-cost steel rods and lightweight plates — became a dancing facade; interior curves quietly separated activities of contrasting character without resorting to doors.
